The advent of the bleep-the-picks era has made the NFL’s trade deadline a real, actual event on the calendar. It doesn’t yet have the sizzle of the NBA or NHL equivalents, but as front offices fill up with young people who spent their formative years moving a hoard of imaginary picks on Madden to put their franchise over the top, we’re shifting closer to a world in which teams split midseason into buyers and sellers.
We’ve already seen a raft of deals involving big names this year as teams look to find an in-season edge. The crossover nature of offenses and defenses across the league means fears about a player struggling to pick up the nomenclature
The one-move-away teams rarely win it all. But, on the other hand, you have the Rams. And this, you may have heard, is a copycat league. Owners want to win. Front offices want to win. Coaches want to win. Players want to win. Align those incentive structures and you get: Trades!
